Um...

She followed me home. I swear! I got out of the car last night - she had been waiting and jumped out to greet me. I tried to ignore her and went inside, but then I looked out and she was sitting there on the top step just looking up at me... and this little thing has personality. She doesn't seem to be scared of anything and slept quite content and purred away all night right next to me.

However... Lizzabella - the 20 pound Ragdoll kitty of the house - HATES this little thing. I don't mean a little bit either. I never knew cats could make such sounds, but instantly on sight of seeing the little one, Lizzabella went nuts, hissing, arching her back and growling! I swear I didn't know cats could do that and she sounded like one pissed off mountain lion!

So for now I'm keeping them on separate sides of a tightly closed door. We shall see. My nerves can't take this war... and I'm not quite sure she'll be staying, but if it works out, I'm thinkin' her name might be Sophie.

Awwww...Sophie is adorable! And clearly she has decided to adopt you.

I'm not surprised that Lizzabella has reacted so strongly, and I've seen plenty of growling from cats over the years! Cats are very territorial, your house is Lizzabella's turf and she's angry to see an interloper allowed in. Sophie needs her own separate food & water bowls and litterbox, so she's not using the ones the other cat already uses. And keeping them separate is a good idea, just introduce them to each other periodically when you are there to supervise. This could take a little time and work but it's not impossible!

OMG, she is adorable! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Lizzabella decides she's not so bad and calms down really soon. Speaking from experience,

Sometimes we don't have a choice in these things. If a cat chooses you, then you have a cat. Not much to be done about it, I fear.

And sometimes, an animal knows when someone needs a little light in their lives. You gotta trust that, too...

I've not been very successful in getting my cats to accept newcomers over the years. I just keep an eye on things, make sure everyone gets equal attention and let them work out their territory. The BFK hates the AGK, but she's learned to live with him. He has yet to learn that she hates him and that causes more problems than anything else. :)

I think Lizzabella knows the kitten is feral and she's trying to protect HER home and human. Have you bathed the new one yet? Sometimes it helps. xxoo
