I'm laughing, but feel a little queasy too. It ain't easy bein' me.
Update: The traps being used are a quick kill trap. I called every resource available to find out what to do - the Sherriff's office told me to just shoot 'em. I called the wildlife people and they said box traps are useless cuz the critters eat mostly grass which they have plenty of. Rest assured, this is the most humane way possible to get rid of them at this point. And I can't wait till it's over and done with.

Yes, I was a girl scout and I remember that one! Didn't it end with "oops I forgot my spoon!"? Further proof of what rotten little things children are!
So I can assume these are not live traps that have been set for your groundhog friends?
I just about spit out my coffee when I read about the greasy, grimy, gopher guts song. I do remember it and now have it stuck in my head, thank you for that. There was also a song about the worms go in, the worms go out.
I wondered if you were going to get questioned on your choice of traps. I do think that the way you are doing it is really the only way. They can't be lured in a live trap with a nice piece of juicy steak.
I hope you had a good time at your dad's. Hope you can hold on to that vacation feeling for a while at least.
Have a good one, hugs.
