The Crazy Lady Saga continues

Oh my gosh.. I'm sitting here laughing out loud to myself.

It's not pretty. A "middle age" lady sittin' alone on her couch with two kitties - laughing outloud at Cartoon Network 'cuz it's REALLY sorta funny when it's huge. hehehehe Can't wait till it gets the cable hook up - God knows how crazy I'll be then.

The kitties are doin' good. Little baby Sophie is the most laid back cat I've ever seen and I think that's why they're getting along. Baby is quite content to sit/sleep for hours in the same spot whereas the big pretty kitty doesn't sit still for 5 minutes. Ever.

So here's the deal with my boss in short form: A secretary in another department is "officially" my back up. We do nothing for each other when one of us is out, but still, we're a backup. She put in for vacation for the 2 days before Christmas weekend and 2 days after. I put in for the 24th on the same day. And I have seniority. And then my boss came to me at the end of the day Friday trying to persuade me to give up the day 'cuz the other lady is having a huge family gathering and relatives from all over in for the holiday (and continued to tell me details of the other lady's festive holiday plans).

So I told my boss that just because someone else has the blessing of a huge family doesn't make it any less special of a day for me, and maybe even a little more important in some ways - and THEN I pretty much called her a condescending bitch, got my stuff and walked out. I still haven't given her an answer. I'll most likely give up the day but the whole thing really pissed me off. She could let us both have that one day off. Anyway. I haven't stopped eating all day and tryin' to think what to have next. Any ideas?

I'm with you on this one(big surprise). Maybe next she will ask you to give up some pay so the other lady can make more to help care for that big ol' family. I like the crazy loving cat lady in you. Eat something you can share with the cat - popcorn maybe. You always do well when you cook. How about a nice quiche and some bread?

Make a big hot loaf of bread and put cold butter on a slice and let it melt while you're eating it. OMG! That's my favorite thing!

I truly believe we work for the same supervisor, or it's her evil twin. Mine told me I couldn't have two days in a row during Christmas because that would put me, my co-worker, and her all out at the same time. I did change the day, but she sure knew I was totally pissed about it. We'll see when the new Manager finally takes over full time duty with our unit. She may be the one who is not happy then. I think you had every right to say what you did. You go girl! xxoo

It's a tough call. On one hand, I think we all want to be gracious. On the other, it sucks to be forced into graciousness. I'm honestly not sure what I'd do in your position. As much as I hate my job, I guess I'm kind of grateful that vacation decisons are made for me and that I don't have to worry about holidays.

I've been in there before - asked to work holidays because a co-worker has a family. Well, so do I - just mine is very hairy, walks on all fours, and has a slight speech impediment!

Seriously though, it does suck and people never realize that in asking that way and for that reason they are sometimes being hurtful. I've often given up the holiday and worked it - but make sure that I get something I want in return, whether it's a different day off, taking an extra turn at reception desk duty, or swapping printers for a new model...you get the idea. So maybe think about it that way?
